Its said that knowledge is power.
To gain knowledge it takes practice, experience and training, so any opportunity I get to practice or gain information and experience through training I grab.
When I got the opportunity to go on a training session in Whitby I didn't hesitate to sign up.
Whitby is a seaside town located on the east coast of North Yorkshire. There is a small fishing port, and tourism is the main economic income for the town. This makes Whitby an ideal place for a break away with many places to stay and lots to do from interesting shops in the shopping area, Whitby Abbey, walks along the piers at the harbour entrance, sandy beaches, cliff tops and the Yorkshire countryside. There is something to do for everyone of any age.
Whitby has some fantastic locations for photography, weather it be landscape photography, family portraits or photographs of a bride and groom. There a places to use the natural light for beautiful natural portraits, and dramatic areas where light can be manipulated to produce some magical memories with drama and WOW factor.
The course in Whitby focused on using natural light in different locations and artificial lighting from speedlights and off camera flash.
With the model in her wedding dress we headed off to find some locations, receiving some puzzled looks as she walked through the busy town centre, and even more as we clambered down a cliff path to the beach.
So the day was about lighting and posing the bride.
As I mentioned knowledge is power, power to get the best possible results from my photography and equipment.
These courses are an opportunity to gain knowledge from top photographers in the UK who are willing to share their secrets. Not only do you gain information from the person leading the course, but there is the opportunity to talk to fellow photographers and share our knowledge with each other.
